I just moved from southern California to Long Island. I went to Jones beach for a jog and it was an Ok experience. One morning I was running on the beaches of Robert Moses, Suffolk County. Oh gosh, I am glad I decided to try a new beach. I spotted few surfers. As I approached them, they were people of different ages and backgrounds. Some were beginners, some were real pros. One thing that united them is the respect for the ocean and desire to catch some waves.
One guy was friendly, and told me more about Long Island and its culture. He has a full time job and runs a company providing lessons for beginners and intermediate level surfers through SmartWavelessons.com. I booked one lesson just to try. What a great experience. The instructor from SmartWavelessons.com was very caring and knowledgeable about the ocean and physicality. I struggled at the beginning but after half an hour I was able to catch my first wave, really cool. Even though I miss my Cali life, but now I found something new to look forward to this summer.
From the west coast to the east was quite the transition for myself. After discovering the great beaches on Long Island and the great surf; the transition has been more than pleasant for myself and my family. Surfing is the biggest stress reliever for my self and has always been my “happy place” ever since i started surfing in the early 90s. Also wanted to thank smart Wave Lessons for giving me the opportunity to post my blog on their platform to get new eyes on my writing. Overall the team at Smart Wave Lessons would have to be my top pick on Long Island in regard to surf lessons! make 2019 the summer you learn how to surf!
